Princess Beatrice Departs From Royal Standard Wearing Trendy Item
Princess Beatrice
Princess Beatrice may be a member of British royalty, but when it comes to the royal family's rules of fashion, she's willing to bend a few.
When Beatrice, 35, made a surprise visit to West Thornton Primary School in South London this week, she opted to pair a cropped fit denim jacket that featured puffy '80s-style shoulders and a distressed hem with a black and white floral sundress.
The jacket, which appears to be the Lana Puff Sleeve Denim Jacket in Rockstar Blue from fashion house Alice + Olivia ($395), deviates from the royal family's fashion guidance, which suggests denim–both jackets and pants–should only be worn in casual settings and not to an important social event.
While Beatrice is certainly not the first royal to step out in blue jeans of some sort–as Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Kate Middleton and more have been spotted wearing denim during informal visits and their days off–it is a tad unusual, as her outing was made to fulfill her role as the patron of Oscar's Book Prize and not just for a pleasant visit with friends.
Still, there's no denying Beatrice looked nothing short of chic in her ensemble.

The Princess of York isn't playing around with her fashion as of late–and interestingly enough, the sudden switch-up into a style icon comes at a time when rumors are circulating that Beatrice could be preparing to temporarily take over some royal duties for the Princess of Wales as Kate continues "preventative" chemotherapy treatment for an undisclosed type of cancer that she was diagnosed with earlier this year.
At the end of April, Beatrice breathed new life into a silky dress she first wore in photos announcing her engagement to her now-husband. A few days later, she expertly executed business chic as she stepped out in a fabulous floral gown with statement sleeves and a matching belt.
Her eye-catching ensembles have continued to be just as trendy this month, as a few weeks ago, the princess was photographed in a black silky midi skirt that perfectly matched the vibes of her recent trip to New York City. Then, on Tuesday, May 21, she stunned once more as she arrived at Buckingham Palace for a garden party wearing a hot pink ruffled number.
