Princess Eugenie Gives Update on King Charles’ Battle With Cancer
Princess Eugenie, King Charles III
Princess Eugenie offered an update on her uncle, King Charles III, amid his cancer battle.
"He's doing well," she shared with reporters at an event benefitting the Elephant Family charity on Thursday, March 21, per ET. She added that he would "also be very proud today because the Elephant Family is very close to his heart, too."
Eugenie's comment came shortly after Queen Camilla shared a similar statement about her husband's ongoing treatment.
"He's doing very well," she said while attending to her royal duties during a two-day visit to Northern Ireland on Thursday. "He was very disappointed he couldn't come."
Someone in the crowd then joked about men "not being the best patients," leading Camilla to quip, "I try to keep him in order."
The monarch was diagnosed with an unspecified type of cancer after he was admitted to the London Clinic, a private hospital, for treatment of an enlarged prostate, which the palace said was benign. Additional testing conducted while he was there revealed “a separate issue of concern” that doctors determined was cancer, according to a Feb. 5 Buckingham Palace announcement.
Days after the initial announcement, the king broke his silence and publicly addressed his ongoing health issues and cancer battle.
“I would like to express my most heartfelt thanks for the many messages of support and good wishes I have received in recent days,” the king's Feb. 10 statement began. “As all those who have been affected by cancer will know, such kind thoughts are the greatest comfort and encouragement.”
“It is equally heartening to hear how sharing my own diagnosis has helped promote public understanding and shine a light on the work of all those organisations which support cancer patients and their families across the UK and wider world,” his statement continued. “My lifelong admiration for their tireless care and dedication is all the greater as a result of my own personal experience.”
In the weeks since, he's been spotted a handful of times and appeared in good spirits in his recent photographs.
