Where is Princess Eugenie in line to the throne?
Princess Eugenie married long-term boyfriend Jack Brooksbank on Friday, and the world was watching. The high-profile nuptials took place at St George’s Chapel in Windsor — the same venue where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wed in May. It reportedly set taxpayers back more than $2.3 million for security.
There has been some debate about whether the public should foot the bill for such a “minor” royal, which made us wonder: where does Princess Eugenie fall in the line of succession? We did the math.
Prince Charles (Eugenie’s uncle) is expected to take the throne after the Queen, with his eldest son Prince William, next in line after him. Prince Harry moved further away from the throne when brother William had his children, George, Charlotte and Louis, who are third, fourth and fifth in line. Harry is now sixth.
Eugenie’s father, Prince Andrew, Duke of York, was second in line to the throne when he was born in 1960, but was moved down the line after Charles and Diana had their sons William and Harry. He is currently seventh.

Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson had their eldest daughter Princess Beatrice, in 1988, and she holds the eighth position, which means Princess Eugenie is currently ninth in the line of succession.
If William’s eldest child, Prince George, has children, his siblings Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, as well as the royals after them, will be bumped down — just like Harry and Andrew before them.
Three-year-old Princess Charlotte made history when her baby brother, Prince Louis, was born in April this year. She became the first female royal to retain her claim to the throne, thanks to the Succession to the Crown Act of 2013.
Before this Act, a son would leap over an older daughter in the line of succession, which is why Princess Anne was overtaken by her younger brothers Andrew and Edward.
