Princess Kate Rewore Her Red Houndstooth Coat Dress to a Rugby Match
Princess Kate brought back one of her boldest looks yesterday, while giving a subtle tribute to Princess Diana.
The Prince and Princess of Wales attended the Wales vs. England Six Nations rugby match at Principality Stadium in Cardiff yesterday, where they coordinated their looks while supporting two separate teams. For the outing, the princess rewore a red and white houndstooth coat dress by Catherine Walker which she previously wore during her and Prince William's tour of Scandinavia in 2018.
Kate kept warm by layering a black turtleneck and opaque black tights under the double-breasted coat, which featured an A-line silhouette. She completed the look with a pair of black ankle boots with silver embellishments by Aquatalia, white gold and diamond earrings by Mappin and Webb, and a small white Mulberry purse.
Meanwhile, William wore a classic dark-blue suit, paired with a white dress shirt and a red striped tie. The prince bundled up for the match itself in a black wool coat and a bright red Team England scarf.
Kate also gave a subtle nod to Princess Diana through yesterday's ensemble. Her houndstooth coat evoked the red, black, and white Moschino look that Diana wore to Princess Eugenie's Sandringham christening in December 1990. She later rewore the skirt suit while touring Toronto during her and then-Prince Charles' royal visit to Canada in 1991.
Only one member of the royal couple left the game with bragging rights. While William has served as patron of the Welsh Rugby Union since 2016, Kate has supported England as patron of the Rugby Football League and the Rugby Football Union since she assumed the two roles in February 2022. The final score was 20-10 to England.
