Principal calls viral video of student in blackface and using racial slur unacceptable: 'We are better than this'
A student in Mansfield, Texas, shared a video on TikTok — a social media app where users can share short videos — in which she applied black paint to her face while wearing a sweatshirt that read “clickbait.”
The teenager, identified as a student of Lake Ridge High School by the Mansfield Independent School District, according to WFAA, begins her video making the sound “ga.” She ends her video quickly by saying “nig.” TikTok videos loop and, dear reader, you are smart enough to put two and two together.
The video was downloaded off the app and shared on Twitter by a fellow student at Lake Ridge.

Lake Ridge High School Principal Brandon Johnson sent an email to parents regarding the video. “There is no acceptable excuse or explanation for behaviors or speech that promote racism. These behaviors do not reflect who we are or aspire to be at Lake Ridge and will not be tolerated.” He concluded, “We are better than this.” Johnson did not immediately respond to Yahoo Lifestyle’s requests for comment.
While the video was filmed off campus, WFAA reports that the incident will be handled according to the district’s student code of conduct.
According to a district booklet, 34 percent of students who attend schools in the Mansfield ISD are white, 29 percent are African-American, 25 percent are Hispanic and seven percent are Asian.
