Priyanka Chopra Reveals One ‘Really Challenging’ Part of Parenting as a Working Mom

Motherhood is full of difficult choices. Will you breastfeed or formula feed? Stay home with your child or go back to work? Take your daughter on location to film in Australia or let her go with her dad on his band’s world tour? Ok, the last one might not feel as relatable to most people, but that doesn’t make the choice any easier for Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who shares 2-year-old daughter Malti Marie with husband Nick Jonas. She opened up about the difficulties of being a working mom, and we love the way she’s keeping it real!

In a new cover interview for Vogue India — where the Citadel star looks gorgeous! — the mom of one opened up about bringing her daughter (and her mom Madhu) Down Under as she filmed The Bluff. And while things might be full of “all smiles, glitz and glam” on Instagram; in reality, she struggles with working and parenting far from home, especially while her husband is away.

“I have many days where I just don’t want to do anything, or when I’m too exhausted or spent,” she candidly revealed. “It’s difficult working in really stressful conditions for months on end. But I just remind myself that I am extremely blessed, and I thank God every day for having a job that I love.”

Chopra Jonas admitted, “I have bad days just like everyone else, but I remind myself what a privilege it is to have all that I do, and I stop complaining and go do my job. I put my feelings aside and deal with them when I get home.”

The Quantico alum shared a glimpse into her filming days, which included waking up at 5 a.m. and working for 12 hours before going home to her mom and daughter. “It’s been amazing to have them with me in Australia, but if I am being totally honest, it’s also really challenging and somewhat isolating to be so far away from everything,” she said. “My husband is busy with touring at the moment, but he finds the time to fly in for that extra TLC whenever he can.”

Just going to work during the day is a challenge for many people (it’s me — I always struggle to balance everything!), but doing it in a foreign country while working grueling hours? It’s a job for super mom, which Chopra Jonas freely admits is not her. She is just as tired, challenged, and isolated as the rest of us, which makes us feel a bit better about this whole parenting thing, to be honest.

As for Malti, she seemed to have a blast on location with her mom, playing in the sand and enjoying the beauty of Australia. “She’s a little traveler,” Chopra Jonas told Entertainment Tonight in April 2023. “But my parents raised me like that, and so was my husband.”

“I started traveling when I was very young, when I was, like, four or five months. So it’s the same thing for her, right now,” Chopa Jonas explained. “She’s not in school, so we can schlep her wherever we want. I love spending time with her so it’s so cool.”

In a previous interview with Us Weekly, the Love Again star shared that she took a step back career-wise to “reduce [her] pace.” “Like, I cannot do as many things as I used to,” she explained. “Because I like to get home for bath time. I like to be there when she wakes up. Those are things that are important to me. … So I can’t do as much, but still, you figure it out, you know?”

“My mom’s around, Nick’s parents come in when we have to travel,” she continued. “Both of us have to travel, but you kind of make it work. It takes a village and she’s the greatest gift of our lives.”

Despite the tough moments and challenging decisions, kids make it all worth it.
