Pro Shows Off His Backyard Dream Track When Disaster Strikes

Carbon has always been the mysterious boogeyman of mountain biking.

On one hand, it has objective performance benefits: it's much lighter and stiffer than aluminum. On the other, most riders have either personally witnessed or have heard of some carbon horror story that lives rent free in the back of their minds every time they step on their bike.

In this case, Reece Wallace lived out a carbon nightmare while filming a clip of his enviable backyard setup. Watch it below.

Now, when you ride as hard as Reece does, parts are bound to fail. You would just hope that they don't fail as catastrophically as this crank arm did.

Good on Reece though for having the wherewithal to somehow recover from that and come away from the incident unscathed.

One important thing to note with all this is: parts fail. No matter what brand, manufacturer, or material they are made out of, things happen. So, don't swear off carbon parts just because you saw a pro break a set of cranks on the internet.
