Products of the Week: Vans, Steamer Baskets and Magnetic Smartphone Accessories
Each week, our inbox runneth over with news of gear, apparel and tech releases from around the world. In this feature, we’ll parse through the best of them. Today: a Noah x Vans collab, good-looking steamers and iPhone accessories that actually work.
Shinola Ice Monster Automatic Watch
Until now, Shinola’s Monster line of watches hasn’t changed as much as the names would suggest; from the Harbor to the Lake Superior, the main difference has been the color scheme (and they’ve nailed all of them, for what it’s worth). But with the Ice Monster, they’ve actually changed the substance as much as the style: the 43mm watch is made of titanium, with an aluminum bezel, making it lighter and stronger than the rest of the lineup. And sure, the white-out dial is pretty slick, too.
Mobile by Peak Design
We recently reviewed Peak Design’s new line of magnetic iPhone products, but here’s the skinny. The “official king of Kickstarter,” Peak Design has launched 10 Kickstarter’s over the years, raising a whopping $32 million — more than any other brand. Their new product, Mobile, which launched on Kickstarter this week, is an ecosystem of mounts, cases, and accessories designed to help integrate your phone into your life. The products are slim, good-looking and (spoiler) actually work.
(PRODUCT)RED x Theragun
Theragun recently released its best-selling percussion-therapy devices — the Pro, the Elite and the Mini — in three new red colorways to benefit (PRODUCT)RED. The Global Fund works to eliminate HIV/AIDS in eight African countries and is now supporting the fight against COVID-19. When you purchase a (PRODUCT)RED device, Theragun will donate a portion of the proceeds to the fund to help secure PPE for health workers, make sure those who are HIV-positive have access to treatment, procure emergency equipment and more.
Behind the Bar: 50 Cocktail Recipes from the World’s Most Iconic Hotels
Subtitled “50 Cocktail Recipes from the World’s Most Iconic Hotels,” Alia Akkam’s cocktail book is the ideal home companion for all of us who miss long flights and the deserved late-night tipple that follows them.
Q Timex Reissue Digital LCA 32.5mm Stainless Steel Bracelet Watch
An homage to an iconic ’80s style, this updated Q Timex is an analog/digital hybrid with a stainless steel case (available in two colors) and a single-bulb backlight that pre-dates the brand’s INDIGLO tech.
Our Place Spruce Steamers
Currently available for pre-order (and expected to ship early December) Our Place has deemed these steamers “the ultimate secret weapon,” capable of making everything from dumplings and non-mushy vegetables to fish cooked to perfection, and even tamales. The steamers slot seamlessly into the pan, so you can still use the spatula rest while never having to worry about the steamers hitting the water. Plus, you’ll get one set of bamboo chopsticks, a set of 25 paper liners and a natural loofah sponge (for cleanup) with your purchase.
Todd Snyder + Legent Bourbon Selvedge Denim
If you’ve ever wondered what a bourbon-inspired jacket might look like, you no longer have to imagine, thanks to Todd Snyder and Legent Bourbon’s latest collaboration. What might seem like an unlikely partnership was born from a mutual appreciation of American classics with Japanese craftsmanship. The result is a denim jacket, a classic piece of American outerwear, crafted from a whiskey-hued Japanese woven fabric that’s produced in Okayama and cut and sewn in the United States.
Casper Rest Stop
Everyone’s favorite DTC mattress brand Casper just launched its first ever digital pop-up shop, featuring limited-edition, stay-at-home merch. Shop the Casper Rest Stop’s cozy apparel and accessories like this ‘Bedtime’ sweatshirt and a pair of ‘Do Not Disturb’ socks, or sit down and relax with a Mug Puzzle while your dog chills in his or her very own hoodie. 20% of every purchase is donated to Win, the largest provider of family shelters in New York City.
Noah x Vans
For their Fall 2020 collaboration with Vans, Noah decided to offer two very different takes on the classic Authentic and Era silhouettes. While at first glance the Authentic might look fairly normal, Noah crafted it from one single piece of suede for the exterior of the shoe, getting rid of the typical seams on the toe cap and creating an ultra-clean and simple versionn. For the Era, Noah went in the entirely opposite direction, combining clashing patterns and colors, including black-and-white checkerboard paired with neon pink and green and camouflage. Whether you want a sneaker that’s pared back or one that stands out, the collab offers both.
