Well, folks, it’s time to get excited—awards season is officially here! While we’re all busy waiting for the day we can safely go back into our local movie theaters, it’s actually pretty easy to watch most of the past year’s most talked about films from the comfort of your couch.
One of those movies is Promising Young Woman, which has been a huge part of the awards conversation this season. Yes, the comedy/thriller might’ve debuted what feels like three years ago on Christmas Day, but that didn’t stop the Oscars from giving it five nominations, including Best Actress for Carey Mulligan, Best Director for Emerald Fennell (aka the woman behind Camilla Parker-Bowles on Netflix’s The Crown), and the coveted Best Picture nomination.
So how can you watch the movie after watching the Oscars tonight? Cosmo is here to give you all the answers you’re looking for:
First things first. What is Promising Young Woman about?
Before you sit and binge the movie, be prepared for some potentially triggering themes seen throughout. The film follows a young woman (Carey) as she spends time avenging the rape of her best friend, whose case was dropped by a corrupt legal system. As Emerald previously told Harper’s Bazaar in December, it’s a film predominantly laced with female angst, putting “a real woman at the center, with the physical limitations that most women have.”
If the plotline doesn’t intrigue you enough, maybe this fantastic cast will. Alongside Carey, the film features Bo Burnham, Alison Brie, Laverne Cox, Adam Brody, and Connie Britton, among others. So yeah, it’s stacked.
Where can I view the film?
If you’re willing to venture out of your house to catch a showing of the film (safely, with a mask on, ofc), you can walk into select cinemas to see it. But if you’re more likely to curl up in the comfort of your home, there are plenty of online options for your viewing pleasure. You can rent or buy the movie from Amazon, along with Apple TV, Google Play and YouTube.
Awesome. How much will I have to pay to see it?
As the movie isn’t currently streaming for free on any service (sorry to those hoping it was on Netflix), the price will depend on which platform you choose. Amazon is currently offering the movie for rent for $5, while YouTube charges $5.99 for 48 hours. Honestly, there isn’t much of a difference in price, so whichever streaming site you choose will be worth it.
