Prone to Puffiness? Here’s the One Thing You Need to Add to Your Morning Routine

Updated

Blame it on the salty dinner. Blame it on seasonal allergies. Blame it on the carboload. Blame it on the crying fest brought to you by episodes of Queer Eye. Or as Jamie Foxx famously sang in 2009, "blame it on the alcohol."

Whatever the reason, if you’ve ever woken up with a bloated, puffy face (so all of us, right?), you’ve probably tried every trick in the book to deflate things as fast as you can. Like cucumber slices on your eyes, washing your face with very cold water, jade rolling and, on rare occasions, a morning jog in hopes of sweating it all out.

But according to Reneé Rouleau, a celebrity aesthetician who is responsible for Demi Lovato’s perma-glow, all you really need to do the next time you wake up looking like a puffer fish is...drumroll, please...take a hot shower immediately.

"A hot shower in the morning dilates lymphatic vessels and helps to drain fluids from your face. In addition to the heat helping with the circulation, the force of the water also helps to stimulate excess fluids to move out of the eye area," she explains.

We don’t know about y’all, but that sounds a helluva lot more relaxing than splashing icy water on our face. Follow that hot shower with a few minutes of Gua Sha and you’ll have cheekbones for days.
