Water success

Thanks to increased awareness of what we’re doing to our oceans, fashion brands are beginning to respond. Fuelled by stats that show it takes 40 years for the average raincoat to decompose, historic Swedish outerwear manufacturer Tretorn has created a stylish waterproof jacket that’s fully recycled, employing waste from the sea and household plastics. It’s making a splash, in more ways than one.

Hats off

Debonair milliner Borsalino celebrates one of its most famous wearers, Casablanca star Humphrey Bogart, with a fedora in his name. The brand has joined forces with the actor’s estate to create the Bogart in dove-grey felt, which has one of his famous quotes on the inside trim. (No, it isn’t, "Here’s looking at you, kid.")

Bear necessities

Raising a glass to the designer’s 50th anniversary, Ralph Lauren’s signature Polo Bear is now depicted in enamel on a handsome Swiss-made watch that comes in four limited-edition designs: Martini, Flag, Preppy and Spectator. The little chap first appeared in 1991, and here he is making a special celebratory appearance, wearing his tux and slippers in a nod to Lauren’s love of all things Gatsby.

What lies beneath

Brit outerwear brand 49 Winters has picked apart the cold-weather coat to come up with a down jacket whose three interchangeable elements (the outer shell, inside down jacket and shearling trim) can be swapped around. Wear them all, or opt for just one. The metallic layers are pleasingly festive, too.
