New Pub Sub bread at Publix: Here’s what to know before you order

Your typical beach and park "pub subs" might be getting a summertime glow up. As if it can get any better.

Publix announced the return of the Italian-inspired Tutto Pugliese bread, with the flour milled in Italy and processed in Belgium before making its way to your local grocery store.

“Tutto bread has a distinct taste of its own with its roasted nutty flavor,” Publix said in a press release. “While all bread at Publix is crafted with love, Tutto bread takes it up a notch. Publix bakers have been training for months to produce the loaf, which is made daily and sold in paper bags.”

You can use this hearty, textured bread for many things, including your next sandwich. Here's how and what to know.

What exactly is Tutto Pugliese bread? How is it different from other breads Publix offers?

The Tutto Pugliese bread is Italian-inspired, made from durum wheat semolina flour and certified sourdough flour, according to its press release.

As for what makes the bread more unique compared to Publix's other staples, looks toward its flour and moisture level. It needs extra handling because of its higher hydration level, which means each loaf is shaped by hand.

Preparing the dough alone takes nearly three hours. It’s then put in a cooler to rest and chill for the night.

“In the morning, it’s proofed to the proper size and then it goes into the oven and spreads its delicious, warm scent around the store. The final result is a soft bread with a creamy nutty flavor and crispy crust,” Publix said.
