Pulaski County Historical Society hosting Wild West murder mystery

The Pulaski County Historical Society will stage “Murder at the Big Branch Saloon” Oct. 5 at One Eyed Jacks’ Celebration Station in Winamac.

Doors will open at 5:45 p.m. and dinner, including dessert, will be served at 6 p.m. The play will start as soon as most guests have finished their meal. They will also be treated to an after-meal snack at the end of Act I. The play is expected to conclude by 8:30 p.m., but if gunslingers get in the way, it could be 9 p.m., the press release said.

The Big Branch Saloon is set in 1870s Dodge City, Kansas, a wild frontier town famous as a cattle town and railroad town, but also as a haven for gun fighters and its lawmen, according to the press release. If attendees would like to socialize with the townsfolk, western attire is encouraged but not required. Reservations are due by Sept. 13.

The local cast includes Chris Schramm as Marshal Matt Skillen, Sheila Hazemi as Miss Jane Russell, Steve VanDerAa as Doc Allen, Holly VanDerAa as “Mike” Gardner, Dan Frain as Louie Peters, Cindy Hickle as Millie Peters, John Weaver as Muley Hawkins, Rhonda Wilson as Charlie Parker, and Kullen Day as Sprint Aspen. Music will be provided by Jake McGrew and Courtney Poor will serve as master of ceremonies.

The evening will also feature a cash bar, 50/50 drawing and raffle opportunities to guess who got “kilt” and who the killer turns out to be.

Attendees will have two reservation options. Guests can sponsor the organization with a table of six for $600 or they can purchase individual tickets for $50 or $45 for members with a limit of two tickets at that price. Both options include dinner, dessert, after Act I snacks and two drinks per person.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Pulaski County Historical Society for a lift that will be placed in the new building. Reservation options and more information are available at pulaskihistory.net/murder-at-the-big-branch-saloon, [email protected] or by calling or texting 574-270-0128.

If you prefer to send a check, mail it to Pulaski County Historical Society and send it to PO Box 135, Winamac IN 46996. Make sure it arrives by Sept. 13.
