Quaker Recalls Over 40 Varieties of Products Over Contamination Concerns

Quaker Chewy Granola Bars

The Quaker Oats Company has announced a recall of over 40 varieties of specific granola bars and granola cereal products following possible contamination with Salmonella.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) shared the company's press announcement on Friday, Dec. 15, revealing a list of each specific product at risk for potential contamination. The recall only applies to the Quaker products included on the list.

The Quaker Oats Company advises consumers to check their pantries for specific products listed with the same "best-by" date as noted on the recall list, and dispose of them.

To date, Quaker has received no confirmed reports of illness related to the products covered by this recall, but Salmonella contamination can sometimes cause serious and even fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune system.

According to the FDA, "Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain."

"In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis."

The affected Quaker products are all sold in outlets throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam and Saipan. and include specific variations of Quaker Big Chewy Bars, Quaker Chewy Dipps, Quaker Puffed Granola Cereal, Quaker Simply Granola and Quaker Snack Mixes.
