Queen Elizabeth Has Been Advised to Rest for Two Weeks
Queen Elizabeth has been advised to cut back on in-person duties.
Buckingham Palace announced yesterday that the monarch will only undertake lighter royal duties in the next two weeks, including virtual audiences. The news comes a week after the queen canceled a planned trip to Northern Ireland on short notice, upon her medical team's recommendation to rest. It was later revealed that the monarch went to the hospital for "preliminary investigations" at the time.
"Following on from their recent advice that The Queen should rest for a few days, Her Majesty’s doctors have advised that she should continue to rest for at least the next two weeks," reads the statement from Buckingham Palace.
Her team had also previously announced that the queen will be unable to attend the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow, Scotland. She will address the delegates via a recorded video message instead, with palace sources saying that she will be doing light virtual engagements from the comfort of Windsor Castle.
"The doctors have advised that Her Majesty can continue to undertake light, desk-based duties during this time, including some virtual Audiences, but not to undertake any official visits," the recent statement reads.
"Her Majesty regrets that this means she will be unable to attend the Festival of Remembrance on Saturday, 13th November. However, it remains The Queen’s firm intention to be present for the National Service of Remembrance on Remembrance Sunday, on 14th November," the statement adds.
Throughout the recent health updates, Buckingham Palace has assured that the 95-year-old monarch has been in good spirits. Prime Minister Boris Johnson has also spoken on the queen's condition, sharing that the monarch was "on very good form" when he spoke to her for their weekly meeting last Wednesday, per The Guardian.
"She’s just got to follow the advice of her doctors and get some rest and I think that’s the important thing. I think the whole country wishes her well," he said.
Though the Queen is unable to attend the COP26 conference, Kensington Palace confirmed to Bazaar.com that Prince William and Duchess Kate will carry out five engagements over November 1 and November 2. Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall are also expected to attend.
