Queen Elizabeth Will Have Even More Reason to Celebrate Easter This Year
Many would consider Easter a significant holiday for people across the world—but Britons and Anglophiles alike will have even more reason to celebrate Easter Sunday this year. In the United Kingdom, both the British monarchy and the public come together to celebrate Queen Elizabeth's birthday during an event which is commonly known as Trooping the Colour. The event, which is full of royal grandeur and time-honored traditions, usually takes place in the early summer—but the Queen's real birthday is actually April 21.
Normally, Easter falls on one of the first Sundays in April, but this year the holiday will take place on the second to last Sunday, which happens to be April 21. While the Queen normally celebrates her birthday privately, the British royal family will attend Easter services on the grounds of Windsor Castle—and, per protocol, she'll join the rest of the royal family in receiving bouquets of flowers from children who will also attend those services. According to the official website of the Royal Household at Buckingham Palace, the British public are invited to observe the Queen's birthday with "a 41 gun salute in Hyde Park, a 21 gun salute in Windsor Great Park, and a 62 gun salute at the Tower of London."

The royal family has previously invited members of the British public to participate in Easter egg hunts on the grounds of Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle. There hasn't been a formal announcement of any Easter events this year, which could be explained by the Queen's rather busy schedule in the weeks following the holiday, including another joyous occasion for the entire nation.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are preparing to welcome their first child at the end of the month, and while the Queen is sure to celebrate the arrival of the Duchess of Sussex's baby, there's also another birthday on the horizon. Prince Louis will celebrate his first birthday on April 23, which is just a couple of days after what's sure to be a memorable Easter Sunday for the entire royal family.
