Queen Elizabeth Looked Regal in Pale Blue at Her Granddaughter Princess Eugenie's Wedding
Queen Elizabeth chose an ice blue dress and hat by Angela Kelly for the wedding of her granddaughter, Princess Eugenie, which is being held today in St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. The Queen arrived at the ceremony alongside Prince Philip. See photos of the Queen's arrival here:
The Queen and her husband have watched four of their eight grandchildren marry-Princess Eugenie is the fifth. Elizabeth is reportedly quite close to her son Andrew's younger daughter. Though Eugenie is not a working royal, she is seen often at family events, like Easter Day church service in Windsor, the Royal Windsor Horse Show, and Royal Ascot, and in recent years, Eugenie has been added to the list of family members who attend the Queen's annual summer garden parties at Buckingham Palace, and this year she participated in the Commonwealth Youth Forum alongside the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Eugenie revealed last January that the Queen was one of the first people she and Jack told about their engagement. The princess said in her engagement interview with BBC’s The One Show that they kept their engagement a secret from everyone except their parents, their siblings, and the Queen and Prince Philip. “Granny actually knew right at the beginning, she was one of the very few people," says Princess Eugenie.
As with past family weddings-and most royal events-the Queen wore a bright color. But the aesthetic choice is more than simply a personal preference. In the documentary The Queen at 90, Sophie, Countess of Wessex explained her mother-in-law's penchant for rainbow shades. "She needs to stand out for people to be able to say 'I saw the Queen,'" she said.
Here's what the Queen wore to Harry and Meghan's wedding last May at Windsor Castle:
