The Queen and Princess Anne’s Actual Convo During That Viral Shrug Is So LOL: “It’s Just Me!”

Remember yesterday when known legend Princess Anne casually broke what remains of the internet? In case you somehow missed this iconic moment, here’s the deal: The queen hosted a bunch of world leaders at Buckingham Palace for a NATO 70th anniversary reception. Fun times! And in a video from the event, Her Majesty and Prince Charles can be seen greeting Donald Trump and Melania Trump, when the queen appears to suddenly realizes Princess Anne isn’t in the receiving line. She then looks over at Anne, who is lurking in the corner and quite literally does this @ her mom: ˉ\_(ツ)_/ˉ.

Obviously, the entire internet interpreted this as Anne being deeply shady toward Trump, but a reporter named Valentine Lowe set the record straight in a series of tweets:

“OK, here goes...Princess Anne: the truth. No, she didn’t snub the Trumps. And she wasn’t told off by the Queen. Instead, the Queen, after greeting the Donald (and the Melania), turned to Anne to see who was next. But there wasn’t anyone waiting: Trump was the last leader to be received by the Queen. Anne raised her hands in the air, laughed, and said: ‘It’s just me,’ adding a moment later, ‘and this lot,’ as she pointed to the members of the household behind her. This excellent bit of sleuthing comes from the very wonderful Laura Elston of the Press Association, who is as impartial a witness as you could hope for. So, the truth is now out there. Not that anyone will pay any attention. Anne the Trump Snubber is a much better story.”

Welp, there you have it. Either way, THAT SHRUG WILL LIVE ON FOREVER.
