The Queen of Tidying Marie Kondo Organizes a Hot Mess Closet in Only ONE Hour
Got a messy closet? Then you have something in common with “Shark Tank” star and mogul Barbara Corcoran.
Her office closet was stuffed with floor-to-ceiling clutter, so we connected her with Japanese decluttering maven Marie Kondo, bestselling author of The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up and Spark Joy.
Marie showed up and in only ONE HOUR (shocking!) got Barbara’s office closet completely in order! Check out her simple, but effective method:
Identify What You Need + What Sparks Joy
Does it make you feel joy?
Do you need it?
If it doesn’t fall into those categories, out it goes. Barbara said that only a few things in her closet sparked joy, notably her collection of colored paper!
Make Your Space Look Neat + Pretty With Similar-Looking Boxes
Marie recommends storing items in boxes that look alike. She says you don’t need to go out and buy boxes -- using shoeboxes or other boxes you already have is just fine.
Increase Your Energy By Categorizing Everything
Keep everything in categories so when you open the door, you can easily find what you’re looking for. Marie says this will “increase your energy.”

She also visited Rach on the set and demonstrated two tips for decluttering at home.
Use This Formula: Bags → Bags → Bags
This is so simple it’s crazy we hadn’t thought of it. Marie stores handbags INSIDE of other handbags. Not only does this take up less space, but it also helps bags to keep their shape.
Learn to Neatly Fold Even the Most Awkward Items
Marie demonstrates her signature clothes-folding and storing technique (fold clothes into small squares, then stand straight up in your drawer for easy access) on even the most awkwardly shaped item -- a cut-out bathing suit!
