"Queer As Folk" Creator Russell T. Davies Called Out "Loki" For The Show's Lack Of A Bisexual Storyline
Queer as Folk creator Russell T. Davies was disappointed by the LGBTQ+ representation in Loki.
In the recent Disney+ series, it was confirmed that Loki is both genderfluid and bisexual, although not much time is spent discussing the topics.
During Episode 3, Loki sits down with Sylvie, who asks him if he's ever been in a relationship with "would-be-princesses or perhaps, another prince."
Loki responds with a simple "a bit of both," while adding that he suspects that Sylvie feels the same way.
In the eyes of Russell T. Davies, the small scene was a "feeble gesture" at LGBTQ+ inclusion and should not have gotten as much praise as it did.
"I think huge, clanging warning bells are ringing as the giants rise up with Netflix and Disney Plus especially. I think that’s a very great worry," he said during virtual Pride month panel.
He continued, "Loki makes one reference to being bisexual once, and everyone's like, 'Oh my god, it's like a pansexual show.' It's like one word. He said the word 'prince,' and we're meant to go, 'Thank you, Disney! Aren’t you marvelous?' It's pathetic."
"It's a ridiculous, craven, feeble gesture towards the vital politics and the stories that should be told," Russell concluded.
Meanwhile, Loki director Kate Herron previously said it was her goal "to acknowledge Loki was bisexual" and hoped that it could be discussed further in the future.
