Rami Malek Snags the 2019 Oscar Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role
In 2018, it was Gary Oldman for Darkest Hour. And now, the Academy has crowned a brand-new winner.
During tonight’s 91st annual Oscars ceremony, Rami Malek won the highly coveted award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for playing Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody.
The actor beat out Christian Bale for Vice, Bradley Cooper for A Star Is Born, Willem Dafoe for At Eternity’s Gate and Viggo Mortensen for Green Book.
While Daniel Day-Lewis currently holds the record for most wins (three) in the Best Actor in a Leading Role category, Malek is joining a slew of previous winners, including Leonardo DiCaprio for The Revenant, Eddie Redmayne for The Theory of Everything, Matthew McConaughey for Dallas Buyers Club and Jean Dujardin for The Artist.
Next stop? The after-party.
