When it comes to technology, the only constant is change. That’s definitely the case with 4K, the latest and greatest in high-resolution flatscreen TVs. If you’ve been watching and waiting for a showstopping deal before finally upgrading to a 4K TV, today’s the day to take that leap.
Walmart has knocked an incredible $450 off the list price of the RCA 70-inch Class 4K UHD Roku Smart LED TV (RTRU7027-US), making this larger-than-life flatscreen TV just $550! That’s a savings of 45 percent on a brand new, top-of-the-line unit.
The RCA 70-inch Class 4K UHD Roku Smart LED TV is an impressive piece of machinery, but one feature that sets it apart from its peers is its built-in video-streaming platform, Roku. While some manufacturers, like Toshiba, integrate Amazon Fire TV into their flatscreens, Roku is widely considered the gold standard.
The rivalry between Roku and Fire TV is kind of complicated (if you want to dig in, check out this article comparing the two). But in a nutshell, Roku simply offers more apps, streaming services and channels than Fire TV—500,000 channels, to be exact, including Netflix, HBO Now, Hulu Plus, and Apple TV+, plus retro channels like Classic Reel and TV Classics that are a no-go on Fire TV.
Fire TV is an Amazon service, though, so it takes voice commands through Alexa, arguably the best voice assistant out there. That gives it a slight edge over Roku’s voice controls, which tend to be a bit underwhelming in comparison. It all depends on your priorities.
That said, the RCA 4K TV will undeniably become the focal point of any room. It features a massive 70-inch display with barely any bezels (a.k.a. that plastic border that frames the screen). And the picture comes through in Ultra HD resolution with HDR (High Dynamic Range) setting—that means four times the detail and clarity of full HD in 1080p resolution. Your favorite movies and shows will come to life with brighter, more vivid colors and deeper black levels than you’re used to with 1080p.
Considering the RCA 4K TV’s size, picture quality, video-streaming capabilities, and ease of use, it’s hard to believe you’re only spending $550—and it doesn’t even end there. Thanks to three HDMI ports, you can even connect a Blu-ray player, video game console and soundbar to this powerhouse 4K TV. But buyer beware: by the time you’re done decking out your den, you may never leave!
