What better way to celebrate big plans for downtown Bakersfield than to party on location?

On Sept. 28, The Hub of Bakersfield will host its Party in the Garden at the Sister Cities Garden Park.

The first-ever event is a celebration of the nonprofit's adoption of the nearby Central Park at Mill Creek.

Its goal is to transform the park into a dynamic space for all to enjoy.

"The Hub envisions a revitalized future for Central Park through experiences to make downtown Bakersfield a better place to live, work, play and invest," Jonathan Yates, chairman for Hub of Bakersfield's board of directors, said in a news release.

Made up of local professionals, business owners, hometown lovers and change makers, The Hub aims to connect people and develop a sense of place downtown by crafting happenings to make the city "a better place to live, work, play and invest."

Previous events created by all-volunteer groups include Paint the Void, Cash for Arts grants, the Bloom mural at the Beale Avenue overpass, Revitalize Old Town Kern and Save Sumner Stations campaigns, Hello Bakersfield! podcast, Innovation Lab and Second Saturday.

Guests at Party in the Garden will be able to enjoy bites from local restaurants, cocktails, vendors, live music, dancing and entertainment.

A highlight of the event will include renderings of The Hub's plans for Central Park, which includes music festivals, yoga, art shows and movie screenings.
