Teddi Mellencamp of 'Real Housewives' met husband Edwin Arroyave on a wild night out
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Teddi Mellencamp and husband Edwin Arroyave could never have imagined that they’d be celebrating an anniversary together when they met at a Hollywood nightclub just over a decade ago. Especially after that first evening ended in a one-night fling gone wrong.
“I was tricked a little bit because when I first saw Edwin, he had a beanie cap on. And then when I saw him the next morning, the beanie was off and there was a ponytail hanging out the back,” Mellencamp tells Yahoo Lifestyle, before recalling that she referred to the CEO and founder of Skyline Security as “Edmund” when she kicked him out. “I thought after that night that that was just one of those … a story that you tell your girlfriends. Maybe I’ll hang out with him one more time.”

One more time turned into many more times, with the pair getting to know each other over a couple of years. Ultimately, their relationship became more serious when Arroyave introduced Mellencamp to his daughter, Isabella.
“For us, it took a while,” Mellencamp admits. “We casually dated for a long time. Once I met Edwin’s daughter, it made our relationship feel a lot more real.”
Still, Arroyave seemed to have reservations about taking the next step by calling Mellencamp his wife — or even his fiancée.
“He came home and he had tears in his eyes, and I had never really seen him cry before, and he just put a blank check down on the bedside table, and he was like: ‘Hey, I just wanted to tell you that I love you and I went to go buy the ring today. I’m sorry. I just don’t believe in marriage and I don’t want you to break up with me,’” Mellencamp recalls. “I felt like the life had just been sucked out of me.”
Luckily, Mellencamp decided against making any rash decisions, and instead told Arroyave that they should focus on having a good time with family on Christmas Eve the following day. To Mellencamp’s surprise, it became the day that he would actually present a ring to her.
“Your mind plays tricks on you, and at the end of the day, I knew that this was the girl that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with,” Arroyave says.
Regarding their July 4 wedding day, however, Arroyave jokes that a poorly timed phone alarm that went off during their vows might have been a sign to not go through with the nuptials. Now, years after their 2011 wedding and after having two children together, it couldn’t be more clear to Mellencamp and Arroyave that they were meant to be.

“When I first started doing Housewives, it only helped,” Mellencamp says of her debut on the reality show’s eighth season. “We were forced more than ever to communicate. I think it’s only made us stronger, and it’s also given us the ability to know what we can work on and what we can work on for each other.”
For the accountability coach, who has her own business called All In, it’s no surprise that she continues to strive to be her best self on a daily basis. Still, she’s sure to stir up some drama on Season 9 of Bravo’s Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, premiering on Feb. 12 at 9 p.m.
