The Real Reason Vanessa Lachey Was Scared to Be a Girl Mom
Nick and Vanessa Lachey may not be the most beloved reality-TV hosts in America (just ask Paul Peden), but to their kids, it's no matter—they're just Mom and Dad.
The Love Is Blind stars, who tied the knot in 2011, are the proud parents of three children. "That was one of the things I think that really drew us to each other, is we both really value family and how important family is," Nick once said.
"Nick is incredible," Vanessa chimed in. "Nick is the reason that we are, I think, sane. He is our foundation. He is our rock. He keeps it together because Lord knows I can't."

Nick and Vanessa welcomed their first child, Camden, now 10, a little over a year after their July 2011 wedding. In a blog post following the birth of their son, Vanessa shared the story of how she learned of her pregnancy, explaining that she and Nick conceived only after they stopped really trying.
"Honestly, by mid December [2011], I resigned myself to the notion that it was not going to be easy for us. So, I decided that I had to just 'let go.'" To relax, she and Nick decided to join his family on a trip to the Bahamas, although Vanessa would have to arrive a day late due to a work commitment.
The night before her flight, she took a friend out for a meal. "That evening I remember that I wanted absolutely everything on the menu!" she wrote. "… After dinner something in my gut said, 'Let’s go back to my hotel…and pick up a pregnancy test on the way!' Call it a mother’s intuition—IT WAS POSITIVE!"
She told Nick the happy news on the beach the following day.

Nick and Vanessa had their middle child, a daughter named Brooklyn, in 2015. In a 2021 interview with People, the former TRL host admitted that she had been nervous to have a girl due to deep wounds she carried from her own mother-daughter relationship (she said her mom "disappeared" when she was 9 years old).
"I was terrified that I would mess her up, so to speak," she said. "That I would fall into these patterns subconsciously."
Thankfully, that didn't happen. "To see my little girl, I couldn't be more grateful and thankful that I was given her and that I get to be her mommy," Vanessa told People.
What's more, Brooklyn, now 8, has quite the bond with her dad. "They are thick as thieves, and I couldn't be more proud," Vanessa said. "Her relationship with her dad is going to be the relationship that I believe defines her as a woman."

Vanessa recounted on Instagram the remarkable circumstances surrounding her third baby's premature arrival, revealing that she had been in the hospital for 10 days prior to his birth because her water broke 11 weeks early and she and her medical team were doing everything they could to keep him in her womb for a few more weeks. But the littlest Lachey had different plans, and Phoenix, now 6, arrived on Christmas Eve.
These days, he's thriving, and when Vanessa tells him his birth story, he charmingly responds, "Mama, I came early because I didn't want to miss Christmas!"
Did Nick and Jessica have a baby?
Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson, who were married from 2002 to 2005 and starred together in Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, did not have children together.
“In our situation, that was probably the best thing that could have ever happened, that we didn’t have kids,” Nick said on Dirty, Sexy, Funny with Jenny McCarthy in 2020. “All things being equal, it was the best thing probably for both of us, that we went on with our lives.”
