LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Southern Nevada mothers looking for community are getting help from other moms searching for those same connections.

Naomi Vasquez is a first-time mom in Las Vegas. The former servicemember moved to the valley because it was where her husband was stationed. Vasquez said she started looking for mothers’ groups while pregnant. She could not find anything in the area, so she took the initiative.

Tired Moms,” a Facebook group for just that — tired moms — was born.

“We’re always tired,” Vasquez said.

The group hosts stroller meet-ups and allows mothers in the Las Vegas valley to connect. Another “Tired Mom” is Charlotte Hoagland. She said her biggest concern moving to southern Nevada was schools. Thanks to support from her family, and via social media, she said she was able to navigate the school system.

The “Tired Moms” aren’t the only group trying to unite moms in Las Vegas. Candace Edwards is part of the “Posh Mama Club,” described as an in-person-only group meant to “bring the glitz and glam to motherhood.” The mother of two said true friendships are sometimes hard to find in the valley.

“I think that the mothers [are moving] here, and they don’t really know where to start,” Edwards said.

The City of Las Vegas has plans to begin a “Mommy Mentor Program,” meant to help expecting mothers with resources. Lindsey Cooksey, Senior Neighborhood Outreach Specialist for the City of Las Vegas, said social support is vital to moms in the valley.

“That’s something we have been lacking in our community,” Cooksey said.
