A Recall Of Apples And Watermelon From Walmart Stores In 9 States Has Been Announced
The Food and Drug Administration released an announcement recalling various containers of sliced fruit like apples, grapes, melons, mangoes, and pineapples. Country Fresh, the brand that issued the recall did so after traces of Listeria monocytogenes were found on some equipment used at the facility where the fruit was packaged.
Products in question were shipped to various Walmart distribution centers that sent them out to Walmart superstores in Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas. Containers involved in the recall have "best if used by" dates that fall between October 3, 2020 and October 11, 2020. A full list of the fruit can be found in the FDA announcement that includes photographs, descriptions, UPC numbers, and expiration dates.
Country Fresh has not received any reports of individuals feeling ill from eating their products. Listeria can cause harmful, sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly, and other with vulnerable immune systems. Listeria symptoms include fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
Following the announcement, Walmart removed the items from their shelves immediately. The investigation is ongoing while Country Fresh works with the FDA to address the issue.
