Are these red carpet gowns or black-tie bathing suits?
The inspiration behind Julien MacDonald’s Spring/Summer 2018 runway show was modern utopia and Amazon rainforest, but the models looked poised for an evening swim.
On Monday, as part of London Fashion Week, the Welsh designer sent models Alessandra Ambrosio, Winnie Harlow, Martha Hunt, and Hailey Baldwin down the runway wearing lace, sheer, metallic numbers that practically screamed for sunblock.
Ambrosio’s cobalt blue C?ROC vodka-inspired bodysuit was equal parts red carpet and beach resort.
And Harlow and Hailey practically redefined the LBD as the Little Black Bikini.

After the show wrapped, MacDonald told a reporter, “Every issue of every magazine should be representative of every woman and man from all around the world, no matter how old or what shape or what size. We are all living in a new material world, and I think we need to change.”
He added, “What I’m showing people is, it’s not about stick skinny … like the rest of the fashion world. I’m showing people women, and these are real women with children and these women are strong, they’re confident, and they look freaking amazing.”
