Reese Witherspoon Confirms She Was an 'Energetic' Child With Smiley Throwback
Reese Witherspoon gave fans a glimpse at what she was like as a little girl ahead of her new children's book.
In an Instagram post shared on Sept. 22, the Legally Blonde star shared a polaroid of herself as a child, wearing a ballerina outfit that consisted of a pink tutu and matching leotard featuring green sequins and a pink flower. She posed in a plié while smiling for the camera in front of a wooden nativity scene.
The Big Little Lies alum additionally included a current-day photo of herself holding her copy of Busy Betty and the Circus Surprise, unveiling that the childhood picture appears in the back of the book's dust jacket.
Witherspoon captioned the post, "Only 11 DAYS until Busy Betty and the Circus Surprise hits bookstores everywhere on Oct. 3!!! I can’t wait for y’all to join Betty on her next crazy adventure."
She also wrote about how her childhood inspired the creation of Betty, noting, "This little character is so close to my heart because she was inspired by my own personality as a child… always energetic, always performing, and always excited. I hope she teaches kids that a BIG personality is a gift and that having a million questions and a billion ideas is never ever a bad thing!!"
The Oscar winner first introduced the character in her 2022 book Busy Betty, in which the titular protagonist has to fulfill the seemingly impossible task of bathing her smelly dog Frank before her best friend Mae heads over. The book became a New York Times bestseller, with critical acclaim.
