Two central Ohio restaurants, the Refectory and Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse, are officially the best places to go for wine, according to Wine Spectator magazine.

Seven Columbus restaurants have been recognized among the world's best for the wine lists they've curated for diners.

Wine Spectator, a U.S. magazine that reviews more than 15,000 wines each year, also reviews restaurant wine lists to highlight those that "offer interesting selections, are appropriate to their cuisine and appeal to a wide range of wine lovers." Its 2024 Best Restaurants for Wine list includes more than 3,700 honorees from around the world.

The Refectory, long ranked at the top of Columbus best-of lists for its classic French and contemporary American cuisine, was one of two restaurants in the city named as Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence winners. Restaurants in the category "are destinations for serious wine lovers, showing a deep commitment to wine, both in the cellar and through their service team," according to the magazine.

In addition to its wine list, the Refectory operates a retail wine shop along with the restaurant at 1092 Bethel Road on the Northwest Side. It has been on the Wine Spectator list since 2003.

Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse, a Downtown steakhouse at 89 E. Nationwide Blvd., also was among Wine Spectator's Best of Award of Excellence winners. The Columbus restaurant, which is part of the Cincinnati-based Jeff Ruby Culinary Entertainment group, has received the award since 2019.

No Columbus restaurants received the Wine Spectator's highest honor, its Grand Award.
