On the heels of its latest collaborative launch, Reformation is tapping into another of-the-moment trend.

The women’s lifestyle brand on Monday announced a balletcore-inspired drop with the New York City Ballet (NYCB), in honor of the organization’s 75th anniversary. Featuring dresses, separates, and ballet flats, the capsule collection keys into the ballerina aesthetic.

Inspired by Jewels, a first-of-its-kind three-act abstract ballet created by NYCB founder and choreographer George Balanchine and opening the organization’s fall season, the 19-piece line is rife with vintage styling.

Reformation paid tribute to the ballet with rich jewel tones and baroque-inspired ballerina toile. Staple shades from soft pinks to grays and white are seen throughout the line. Reformation’s design team worked with tulle, lace and chiffon, as well as more sustainable fabrications like Tencel, Eco-silk (Bluesign certified for clean wet processing), a 90-percent recycled cashmere blend with 87 percent less carbon impact than conventional cashmere, and deadstock textiles.

Items in the collection include a cashmere and tulle tube dress, a champagne tulle midi skirt, an ankle-length lace frock, a silver silk formal gown with rosettes at the shoulders, a cashmere post-practice bra top and short set, legwarmers, and two ballet flat silhouettes. The collection is available to shop on Reformation’s e-commerce site and four Manhattan stores starting Monday.

Balletcore re-emerged most recently as a TikTok-driven movement last year. A spinoff of the cottagecore aesthetic that popped up during the pandemic, the look embraces ultra-feminine styling characterized by silk, satin, ruffles, bows, laces and pastel pinks and whites. “Balletcore” generated 16 million views on TikTok on Thursday, with search terms like “balletcore aesthetic” and “balletcore outfits” also trending.
