The Reliable Mary Janes I've Worn for 3 Months Straight
Editors' Picks are the Fashionista team's true (#notspon) fashion and beauty obsessions, handpicked by professionals who see it all.
As a college student who spends her time off campus, on her feet working in retail and moonlighting as a fashion journalist, I do a number on cute shoes.
I'm based in Oxford, Mississippi — boots fall out of season here a bit earlier than they do in New York or Chicago. Back in March, I found myself in need of a spring and summer shoe that's as versatile and comfortable as a sneaker, but a little nicer. In a twist of good luck, I came across these $120 Mary Jane flats from Dolce Vita, and quickly purchased them in ivory leather.
I've worn several of the brand's styles over the years, and they've become staples in my wardrobe. The Reyes Ballet Flats, though, have stood the test of time (and distance) better than any other: They barely show any sign of wear despite me breaking them out at least three times a week. Plus, the leather was so soft out of the box, I didn't even have to break them in. (I can confirm that they run true-to-size.) They've made for a solid counterpart to my typical white top and jeans (à la Jane Birkin) on days when a sandal doesn't cut it.
These shoes are available in nine colorways. The only question left is: What color should I buy next?
