Chef with Michelin-star cred to bring signature steaks, duck fat fries to Delray Beach

A globally-recognized restaurant famous for its signature butter-poached steaks and duck fat fries is headed for Palm Beach County.

The Seagate Hotel & Spa has announced it will soon welcome the ninth location of Bourbon Steak to its Delray Beach property.

The Delray Beach restaurant stands as the first Palm Beach County establishment for James Beard award-winning chef Michael Mina, known for his Michelin-starred namesake restaurant and founder of the Mina Group, a collection of more than 30 global restaurants in partnership with Andre Agassi that includes Orla, International Smoke, StripStreak, and Michael Mina at the Bellagio, among others.

Atlantic Grille will close after more than a decade in Delray Beach

On Monday, July 15, the Seagate will close its signature restaurant, Atlantic Grille, which opened in 2009. The move will mark the start of a series of renovations to take place over the next few months including new hotel guest rooms, a refurbished lobby, and updated meeting rooms.

When complete, Bourbon Steak's updated 6,000 square-foot, 310-seat space will feature a 34-seat bar, outdoor patio seating, and a private dining room that seats up to 24 guests. The restaurant is expected to open in late 2024, and follows the May opening of Bourbon Steak inside the JW Marriott Essex House New York.

According to Alex Schnoeller, managing director for The Seagate, the addition of Bourbon Steak — Mina's ode to the classic American steakhouse — is intended to create a decidedly upscale experience for both hotel visitors and locals.

"Our hotel guests, as well as the many discerning diners flocking to Delray Beach, have created a demand for a Michelin-rated restaurant helmed by an award-winning chef," Schnoeller tells The Palm Beach Post. "We also feel that Bourbon Steak will bring needed vitality to the picturesque beachside area of Atlantic Avenue…and we are thrilled to bring this exciting new restaurant to our hotel, and to the residents of Delray."

The Seagate recently welcomed Dmitriy Kakuschke, who helmed the kitchen as executive chef for Bourbon Steak Nashville since its 2018 opening. Moving forward, Kakuschke will act as executive chef for Bourbon Steak Delray Beach, as well as oversee the culinary teams for the hotel's beach club, yacht club, and golf club, while spearheading seasonal menus.

The 154-room Seagate Hotel & Spa recently completed a major renovation to The Seagate Golf Club. In December 2023, the property debuted its Joe Lee designed, 18-hole golf course and practice facilities, and renovated 41,064 square-foot clubhouse, which includes a dining room that serves lunch, brunch, and dinner.

As part of its ongoing, property-wide renovations, the Seagate will soon unveil a dramatic refresh to its two-story, 250-seat, 3,500 square-foot oceanfront clubhouse. Established in the 1950s and located at 401 South Ocean Boulevard, the Seagate Beach Club, is open only to members and hotel guests.

The original structure was damaged during Hurricane Wilma in 2005, resulting in a new two-story clubhouse, which closed in May for additional upgrades. Reopening is scheduled for October.

The project will feature architectural and interior design updates by New York’s Dash Design, including an overhaul of the first floor dining area and cocktail bar — each enhanced to maximize the views of the beach and ocean — while the second floor will serve as both a dining and bar lounge with seating set up for cocktails and small bites.
