Jul. 30—While many in St. Joseph are dreading the excessive summer heat, some businesses are actually thriving amid the high temperatures.

St. Joseph is full of places to grab a cold sweet treat in order to beat the heat, including chains like Sonic and Dairy Queen or local spots like Kris and Kate's.

Cabana is a local ice cream shop that has been in St. Joseph since 1990. Charlotte Lady, a manager at Cabana, said business has been good this summer due to the hot weather.

"(It's been) busy actually, which is really good for us," Lady said. "And, I mean, it's terribly hot. The drive-thru helps a lot because you're not out in the weather."

Baskin Robbins is another place to get ice cream in St. Joe. Jennifer Jones and her family who traveled from out of town stopped at the ice cream store Tuesday for a cold treat.

"We went out to eat at a local restaurant and I told them we'd get ice cream after," Jones said.

"'Cause I need my dessert," Kamden Williams said.

"We were spending time with our family," Keelyn Williams said.
