Restaurant owner claims customer left racist note on receipt: 'Trump will f*** you all'
The owner of a Mexican restaurant in Hunstville, Ala., had some choice words for a customer who left a racist, profane note for his waitress on Saturday.
Vanessa Martinez took to the Facebook page of her establishment, Charrito’s Bar & Grill, to air her grievances in an open letter addressing a harassing situation that seemingly came out of nowhere. A waiter said the customer who left the handwritten note on his receipt had eaten at Charrito’s without incident, barring one off-color comment made to his waitress, who asked if he’d be paying with cash or a card, according to local WHNT 19 News.
The customer reportedly responded, “Do white people ever use cash?”
The message the man proceeded to scrawl on the receipt called Charrito’s employees “brown c****” and said, “Trump will f*** you all,” the owner claims.
Martinez posted the NSFW image of the receipt along with a warning that there is no place for such hatred in her “family-owned and operated business.” She defended her staff, writing, “Our employees and most of our customers are like family. They have been with us in the good and in the bad times.”
She expressed disgust over the “rude and awful” message.
“This behavior is not tolerated in our restaurant,” she wrote. “Our staff and any customers in our facility require respect.”
She declared that anyone who cannot abide by those house rules is simply not welcome at Charrito’s, and she thanked all others or their “support and appreciation.” She closed the note with a hearty “Muchas Gracias!”
Stunned customers flooded the comments section with words of solidarity.
“On behalf of my race, I’d like to disown this person,” one person wrote.
“We go here all the time and they are some of the sweetest people you’ll ever want to meet,” added another commenter. “They don’t deserve this.”
But there were also patrons who were suspicious of the note, suspecting it was bogus and posted for attention.
Martinez said nothing like this has ever happened before at Charrito’s, and she doubts it will happen again. She also denied any political motives for her post.
“Our post was not intended to be politically out there or what not,” she told WHNT 19 News. “Everybody has their own opinions. We just want people who are coming into the restaurant to be peaceful and mindful of other people.”
