The Results Are in! Chadwick Boseman Wins the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama

First it was Gary Oldman for Darkest Hour. Then it was Rami Malek for Bohemian Rhapsody and Joaquin Phoenix for Joker. And now, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association just awarded a brand-new winner.

Today, the entertainment industry’s biggest stars virtually gathered for the 78th annual Golden Globes. During the ceremony, Chadwick Boseman posthumously took home the award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture (Drama) for playing Levee Green in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom.

He was nominated alongside Riz Ahmed for Sound of Metal (played Ruben Stone), Anthony Hopkins for The Father (played Anthony), Gary Oldman for Mank (played Herman J. Mankiewicz) and Tahar Rahim for The Mauritanian (played Mohamedou Ould Salahi).

The Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture (Drama) has been around since the ’40s, though it was originally combined with the Comedy and Musical category. Previous winners include Casey Affleck for Manchester by the Sea, Leonardo DiCaprio for The Revenant, Eddie Redmayne for The Theory of Everything, Matthew McConaughey for Dallas Buyers Club, Daniel Day-Lewis for Lincoln, George Clooney for The Descendants and Colin Firth for The King’s Speech.

Al Pacino currently holds the record for most nominations in this category, with a total of ten. He’s followed by DiCaprio, Jack Nicholson and Denzel Washington, who each have eight nominations.
