Why Wall Planters?

Wall planters are a fantastic addition to any home. They are space-efficient, making them ideal for those with limited floor space but a desire to cultivate a green oasis.

From a practical standpoint, wall planters allow for better access to sunlight, especially in urban settings where direct light may be scarce.

Additionally, because they are off the ground, wall planters can help prevent issues with pests and make plant care more accessible. All these factors make wall planters a smart choice for anyone looking to enhance their living space with greenery.

“A beautiful plant is like having a friend around the house.”

Beth Ditto's quote reflects the companionship and joy that houseplants bring into our lives, much like a dear friend.

My Obsession With Rare Houseplants

I am a plant person. I started with a single pothos plant about 20 years ago, and my obsession has grown from there.

Lately, I've been intrigued by rare houseplants. I found an amazing Etsy store called Sunshine Greens that specializes in rare houseplants, particularly philodendrons. I had my eye on two varieties: the black cherry philodendron and the white wizard.

Plants fill every corner, dresser, table, and nook of my home, so in order to keep my collection growing, I knew I needed to purchase some wall planters and make use of the vertical space.

I quickly found a set of ceramic wall planters on Amazon, ordered them, and then placed my order with Sunshine Greens for my rare houseplants.

Top 5 Reasons I Recommend These Planters

  1. They are simple to hang on the wall and do not require a special hanging kit.

  2. They are modern, chic, and sleek. They fit with almost any decor style.

  3. They are the ideal size for a new plant and are not too big.

  4. They come in a set of three, so they can be hung creatively in any design you like or separated in different rooms.

  5. Plants thrive in them. They allow for flexible positioning to capture the best sunlight.

Sunshine Greens

Sunshine Greens is a small shop I found on Etsy when I was searching for rare houseplants. Because I live in a rural town, ordering things online is just a part of everyday life.

It was difficult to find the varieties of rare houseplants that I wanted from common sellers like Amazon or Costa Farms. When I came across Sunshine Greens, I knew I had discovered a gold mine for rare houseplants!

Two things to note about this shop:

  1. Many of the plants are starter plants, so they are small.

  2. This is a small business, so it takes time (a few weeks) for the plants to be delivered.

Having those two points in mind, I highly recommend this shop. The starter plants arrived healthy and happy. I can't wait for them to grow to the point where I can begin to proliferate them.

Why I Prefer Ceramic for Plants

Ceramic planters offer a range of benefits for both indoor and outdoor gardening. Here are some of the key advantages:

  1. Moisture Retention: Ceramic planters are known for their ability to hold moisture well, which is beneficial for plants that prefer consistently moist soil.

  2. Insulation: The thermal properties of ceramics help insulate the soil, protecting plant roots from drastic temperature changes.

  3. Durability: Ceramics are durable and less likely to deform or fade over time compared to plastic pots.

  4. Airflow: The porous nature of ceramic allows for improved airflow to the soil, promoting healthy root growth.

  5. Less Prone to Root Rot: Since ceramic is less likely to trap excess moisture, it helps prevent root rot and other water-related issues.

  6. Versatility: Ceramic planters can be used both indoors and outdoors, and they come in waterproof options for outdoor use.

What Else Can You Plant?

You certainly don't have to plant rare houseplants in your ceramic wall planters.

Instead, you might enjoy planting succulents and hanging them in a bright spot. Succulents don't require much care or water, so they are a great choice for a new plant owner.

If you plan to hang your wall planters in the kitchen, you could plant herbs in them, such as basil or parsley.

These planters are versatile. To ensure the plant you choose thrives in the planter, simply use the right soil type and consider the light level needed. Most plants provide this information on a little card when you buy the plant, but you can always search your plant variety online to find out which environment serves it best.

The Black Cherry and White Wizard

The rare houseplants I selected from Sunshine Greens were both varieties of philodendrons.

I am a huge fan of philodendrons because they are such easy plants to grow and proliferate. I find that they can be planted with other plants, such as ferns, oxalis, or calatheas, and thrive.

My new black cherry and white wizard plants are babies right now, but it won't take long for them to grow. Within six months, I should be able to proliferate them and give them as gifts to family for the holidays.

Starting a Plant Side Hustle

Given the value you get from these ceramic wall planters, they would be the ideal choice if you intend to make money from a plant side hustle.

As I mentioned, many plants are easy (and free) to proliferate. Thus, the only costs are the planter and the soil. It could be a rather profitable side hustle.
