When it comes to weight loss, we've all been told that eating a healthy, balanced diet holds the key to success. But for many people, especially those on GLP-1 medications, figuring out what exactly that means can be a whole other battle. Now, one brand wants to take the guesswork out of mealtime — and revamp the frozen food aisle, too. You can now stock up on Nestlé's new Vital Pursuit line at retailers nationwide. Prioritizing smaller portion sizes without sacrificing essential nutrients, the line aims to support customers in long-lasting lifestyle changes. Intrigued by the promise of healthy pre-made food, I had to find out more — and give you Woman's World readers the rundown. Here’s what you can expect from the new Vital Pursuit line and how they actually taste.

Nestlé’s Vital Pursuit hit stores on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, as the first-to-market consumer packaged goods (CPG) brand created specifically for GLP-1 users. It offers high-protein, nutrient-packed frozen meals that aim to provide dietary support for these users, as well as anyone on a weight management journey.

Available at major retailers like Walmart, Target and Kroger, these pre-portioned meals offer convenience for those seeking quick yet balanced options. Each of the 14 meals comes with at least 20 grams of protein, whole grains and vegetables, not to mention vital nutrients such as vitamin A, potassium, calcium or iron. The line also includes vegetarian and gluten-free varieties and air fryer cooking methods.

What makes it unique?

So, what makes Vital Pursuit different from other frozen meals? According to Nestlé, GLP-1 users on medications like Ozempic and Wegovy for weight loss or diabetes management often discover they don’t have as much “food noise” and feel fuller faster.

“People taking these medications not only have a decreased appetite, but they must adjust their diets with a sharper focus on smaller portions, while also prioritizing beneficial nutrients for their health,” said Marlene Schmidt, Registered Dietitian and Senior Health & Wellness Manager at Nestlé in a press release.

The line’s biggest advantage is practical portion control without sacrificing nutrition. All meals were developed with a chef and dietitian team to ensure maximum quality. And if some of them seem rather indulgent, that was intentional. Vital Pursuit wants you to enjoy your pizza and mac and cheese, just in a way that makes weight management a little easier. That means you don’t have to feel guilty over eating the whole thing – but it will definitely leave you feeling satisfied.

Additionally, the retail price makes Vital Pursuit an affordable option for shoppers.

I had the chance to try three of the new meals, and overall, I was pretty impressed. The Cauliflower Crust Pepperoni Pizza was my favorite. At first glance, they weren’t kidding about portion control — I could fit the entire pizza on a small plate. That said, it proved to be the perfect size for one person, and I definitely wasn’t hungry after eating it (it was only 380 calories!). Since I had more time on my hands, I decided to bake mine in the oven and it came out crispy, bubbly and flavorful. The cauliflower flavor wasn’t too strong, so it really felt like a traditional pizza.

As for the The Garlic Herb Grilled Chicken Bowl (340 calories) and the Air Fryer Meal Teriyaki Chicken (220 calories), both made for decent in-office lunches or quick dinners. I liked how easy they were to heat up in the microwave, and the flavors were good (hats off to the Teriyaki sauce). However, the texture was definitely on the mushier, wetter side (as to be expected). I still felt full from both, though these didn’t look exactly like their pictures. And everything was tiny, from the chicken to the broccoli. I wished some of the veggies were bigger, as most looked more like crumbs than actual pieces.

Overall, the Vital Pursuit line hits the mark for anyone seeking healthier, portion-controlled meals and they make a solid choice for a quick, lazy meal.
