Richard Lewis, 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' Star and Comedian, Dead at 76
Beloved comedian and actor Richard Lewis, known to many for his hilarious appearances on Curb Your Enthusiasm, has died at the age of 76. The longtime comic suffered a heart attack at his home in Los Angeles, Deadline reports.
Lewis announced in April 2023 that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, effectively ending his stand-up comedy career as he announced his retirement from the stage. Still, that didn't stop him from acting. He recently appeared in the final season of Curb Your Enthusiasm, currently airing on HBO, adding to his more than three dozen appearances as a semi-autobiographical version of himself on the show over its two-decade run. The most recent cameo is especially heartbreaking as he and Larry David's characters discuss putting each other in their wills.
Back in 2021, Lewis said he wouldn't appear in season 11 of Curb while he was recovering from three surgeries at the time. He surprised his castmates by showing up to set to film an episode of the show. "When I walked in and they applauded, I felt like a million bucks," he told Variety of the experience. "Larry doesn’t like to hug, and he hugged me and told me how happy he was after we shot our scene."
Besides Curb Your Enthusiasm, Lewis made appearances on shows like Two and a Half Men, George Lopez, and animated series like The Simpsons and BoJack Horseman. He was known for his often self-deprecating or dark humor and earned a treasured spot in many fans' hearts.
