Rihanna Celebrated Her Mom's Birthday in Sheer Pants and a Leather Blazer
Rihanna flew back to New York City over the weekend, where not only did she attend an anti-Asian hate protest incognito, but she also got dressed up to go out and celebrate her mom's birthday in another iconic street style look. Rihanna was photographed in New York City's Meatpacking District, wearing white heels, sheer brown pants, a matching leather blazer, and studded gloves.
She wore her black mask in most shots and accessorized with a birthday gift bag for her mom Monica Braithwaite.
Rihanna spoke to Vogue in August about her mother being her beauty icon. “My entire concept of beauty came from her,” she explained to A$AP Rocky in a video for the outlet, via Hola!. (Rihanna and A$AP are longtime friends and were reported to be dating in December.) “I was always so intrigued there. I wanted to dress like her. I wanted to look like her, do my hair like her, do my makeup like her.”
Her mom was a salesperson for makeup and perfume, Rihanna added, and she took a lot of lessons from that. “I learned from the best. I had the best teacher: My mom.”
In a March 2020 interview with British Vogue, Rihanna even spoke about how she'd someday have children even without a partner. “Hell, yeah. I feel like society makes me want to feel like, ‘Oh, you got it wrong…’ They diminish you as a mother if there’s not a dad in your kids’ lives. But the only thing that matters is happiness, that’s the only healthy relationship between a parent and a child. That’s the only thing that can raise a child truly, is love.”
