Riley Keough Finally Shares Name of Her Baby Daughter—and It Pays Tribute to Elvis
Riley Keough and Ben Smith-Petersen's baby girl is turning one this month, and the Daisy Jones & the Six star found it a befitting time to finally share the little one's name with the world.
As Vanity Fair's latest cover star, the actress opened up not only about the babe's name, but where the moniker came from.
"This is Tupelo," she told the outlet of her 12-month-old daughter, who was born last year via surrogate. Keough further revealed the bundle of joy's full name as Tupelo Storm Smith-Petersen, which holds a special place in her heart, as it honors some late family members.
Tupelo is the Mississippi city where Riley's late grandfather, Elvis Presley, was born in 1935. "It's funny because we picked her name before the Elvis movie. I was like, 'This is great because it's not really a well-known word or name in relation to my family—it's not like Memphis or something.' Then when the Elvis movie came out, it was like, Tupelo this and Tupelo that. I was like, 'Oh, no.' But it's fine," she explained.
Meanwhile, the baby shares middle name Storm with her late uncle and Riley's brother, Benjamin Storm Keough, who died in 2020 at the age of 27.
Of being a new mother, Riley shared, "This is the thing in my life so far that I have really wanted to, 'get right.' I don't think you ever can be a perfect parent, but I would like to be the best mom for her that I can be. That's... very important to me."
