RNC chair Ronna McDaniel condemns uncle Mitt Romney's anti-Trump op-ed
The new year is off to a seemingly awkward start for Mitt Romney and family after his niece, Ronna Romney McDaniel, took to Twitter to bash the incoming GOP senator for his criticism of President Donald Trump.
McDaniel, who is the Republican National Committee chairwoman, is making her loyalty to the president clear following Mitt Romney’s critical op-ed, which was published in the Washington Post on Tuesday. In it, he says “that the president has not risen to the mantle of the office.”
In a tweet, McDaniel calls her uncle “an incoming Republican freshman senator,” and says that his attack on the president “is disappointing and unproductive.”
POTUS is attacked and obstructed by the MSM media and Democrats 24/7. For an incoming Republican freshman senator to attack @realdonaldtrump as their first act feeds into what the Democrats and media want and is disappointing and unproductive. https://t.co/ArhI7Bi7bo

Those who took notice, however, seem to find her response even more disappointing than Romney’s disapproval of Trump.
Besides pointing out Romney’s political savvy from his work as a former governor and 2012 presidential nominee, critics of McDaniel’s also commented on her “blind obedience” to Trump, which started when she stopped using her maiden name upon the president’s request.
Well, now its official. The GOP will sell out their own family for an inch of personal gain. But, we already knew this.

I don’t know which is worse: the fact you’re pretending the “freshman Senator” isn’t vastly more politically experienced, qualified, and principled than Trump; or, the fact you’re pretending the “freshman Senator” is not your own uncle.

This is the part of the dystopian movie where the weak-willed follower betrays a family member to show their loyalty to the Great Leader

1) The term "freshman" grates. Mitt Romney is a seasoned politician, whatever other opinion you may have of him. 2) In any event, how long does a Senator have to wait to express a point of view? What rule do you stupidly think exists about freedom of speech?

Not as disappointing as watching Republicans forfeit any sense of morality or patriotism to move their me first agenda forward

Still, others supported McDaniel’s public condemnation of her uncle, saying that Romney is a “political opportunist.”
Your uncle @MittRomney
Personally talks cheap, we’ll have to wait and see if he’s still the same old political opportunist he’s always been!

You should know as well as anyone that Mitt is a political climber and pragmatist. I mean, he was willing to interview with the president after calling him a fraud. He's working on his political career, not actually taking a stand.
But you know this.

Excellent, ma'am. This is the point I keep hammering you, the @GOP, @HouseGOP and @SenateGOP on. We didn't hire Moses or Jesus. We hired a guy to stand up and fix things. Oh, and to drain the swamp your uncle wants to be a part of. Brava!

AMEN!!!!

But some people think the awkward exchange could have been saved for a private family conversation.
Rough Christmas for the Romneys, eh?

This is going to make Thanksgiving real awkward, Ms. Romney.

You couldn't have dealt with this at the family Christmas dinner?
