For Dwayne Johnson, it has been a long road to Black Adam. The actor spent years dropping hints to Warner Bros. that he was extremely interested in playing the comic book antihero on the big-screen. Then in 2019, it was officially announced that Johnson would be headlining a Black Adam movie—only for the pandemic to shut down pre-production.

Johnson used that unexpected downtime to throw himself into his training, working out harder than ever before in order to be able to believably embody "the most unstoppable force in the DC universe" and posting details of the difficult exercises he was using to aid his superhero transformation on social media.

Now, finally, filming on Black Adam is well and truly underway, and Johnson has just shared a behind-the-scenes photo illustrating the sheer scale of the production.

"Wanted to show you guys this cool shot of our enormous sound stages and massive production efforts and scale," he wrote on Instagram, encouraging fans to zoom into the shot to see what details or clues can be gleaned about the movie. "We're hitting our midway point stride and our A-Team production crew continue to showcase why they’re the best in our industry," he added. "This is one inspiring production to be on... The hierarchy of power in the DC UNIVERSE is about to change."

Johnson also dropped a long-awaited first look at his character in costume, although how he will look in the movie remains (literally) shrouded in mystery; the photo simply shows the actor, or possibly a stand-in, wearing a hooded cape, completely obscured in shadow.

Black Adam is currently slated for a July 29, 2022 release date. In addition to Johnson, the movie will feature Aldis Hodge, Uli Latukefu, Pierce Brosnan and Noah Centineo.
