Jun. 3—SUNBURY — A special "Rock for Rescues" event will be held in Sunbury on July 27 featuring a sure to be packed kissing booth.

The event, hosted by Mary and Dennis Marquette in cooperation with 61 Events and 61 Pinbar, on Route 61, is being held to give back to dog rescues and highlight their work, according to the Marquettes.

The couple adopted two rescues from Mommy and Me Rescue in the past. The couple said they have chosen two other rescues to be involved and supported — Patriot K9 Rescue, in Elysburg, and Rescue Pets Serving Vets, in Benton, Columbia County — because of their commitment to veterans, both human and canine.

The benefit event will run from 8 a.m. until 11 p.m. at the 61 Events and 61 Pinbar, on Route 61, just outside of Sunbury.

There will be a breakfast buffet presented by 61 Events from 8 until 10 a.m. for $11.99. Bingo will start at 9 a.m. It will cost $20 to play. Various prizes will be available, the Marquettes said.

There will be a Chinese Auction that will run all day. Various beer vendors will start serving at noon.

"We will have a few eclectic vehicles on display, like KITT, General Lee and the A Team replicas, as well as a few Confederate motorcycles," Mary Marquette said.

Weather permitting, the rescues will bring adoptable dogs to meet, she said.

But the main attraction may just be the Doggie Kissing Booth, where people will have the chance to get a smooch from a loving animal.

There will be a dog supply swap meet table at the event.

"We will be having food and drinks as well as a few select vendors," Mary Marquette said. "The Pinbar will be open with approximately 15 pinball games.

"The day will end with some great acoustic music from local talent Warren Dane, who will be opening for international recording artist and entertainer Ron Keel," she said. "Keel has sold millions of albums and toured the world with some of the biggest artists of the '80s."

Keel opened for Bon Jovi on the Slippery When Wet tour which included three nights at Madison Square Garden. Keel had two albums produced by Gene Simmons — Right to Rock and Final Frontier.

"Please come out and join us for a great time for a great cause," Mary Marquette said.

Tickets are required for the breakfast buffet, bingo and the concert and are available at Eventbrite Rock for Rescues 2024 Sunbury PA.

The event is open to the public and is free to browse and enjoy. More information is available on the Rock For Rescues 2024 Sunbury PA Facebook page.

"I was a nurse at SCI Coal Township and was able to see the FIDOS program at work," she said. "I saw how it made an impact on the inmates involved and the benefits for the dogs who needed that extra time and training in order to be adopted.

"All proceeds raised by the bingo, Chinese auction, dog supply swap meet, doggie kissing booth and concert will be split between the three rescues," Mary Marquette said.
