Hobbs & Shaw, the upcoming Fast & Furious spinoff, has a seriously stacked cast. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Jason Statham will reprise their roles from the iconic franchise, with Idris Elba playing the villain Brixton.

But apparently, the show-stealer will be young actor making his film debut: Hobbs, Johnson’s "bad ass" French bulldog, who was given a role in the forthcoming flick, in what even The Rock admits was a bit of nepotism.

"Today we’re on the set of Hobbs & Shaw, and it’s a very special day, because we have arguably the biggest star of the movie: Hobbs himself,” Johnson said in an Instagram video posted Wednesday. “This is my real bulldog Hobbs, named after my character. I talked to Hobbs, I said, ‘Do you want to be in the movie?’ He’s like, ‘Yeah, I’ll be in the movie.’”

Johnson adopted Hobbs, a good boy if ever there was one, along with his brother, Brutus, three years ago, the actor said in a note accompanying the video. Brutus, sadly, died a few months later, but Hobbs has been going strong-eating buffalo meat and taking a "steaming three-curler" dump on the set of the movie. (It's safe to say the cast could smell what The Rock's pup was cookin'.)

“Hobbs was a real pro,” Johnson said of his pup’s turn in front of the camera. “He was disciplined, unlike his owner. He was professional, unlike his owner. And he listened to the director, unlike his owner.”

“He did a great job,” Johnson added.

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw is said to pick up a couple years after the events of the main franchise, with the title characters-played by Johnson and Statham-battling...um...terrorist robots? It seems like a pretty big leap from where the franchise began, but it looks pretty cool based on the trailer that was released last week.

The action-comedy is due out in August. No word on what role Hobbs the doggo will be playing, but hopefully it doesn’t involve driving a car.

“He’s just an awesome dog with a big ol’ heart,” Johnson said. “And at the end of the day, just like the character Hobbs, he’s one bad ass son of a bitch.”
