Rocky Spinoff Starring Dolph Lundgren Delayed
Rocky’s greatest nemesis is getting a spinoff movie, but it’s currently suffering an almighty delay.
The film, which follows Dolph Lundgren’s feared Russian boxer Ivan Drago and his equally ferocious son, is reportedly on hold while Warner Bros. focuses on Creed 4.
"MGM was developing the script called Drago about my character and my son," Lundgren tells ScreenRant. "I think what happened was the studio changed leadership, and then Creed 3 did very well, so they started preparing for Creed 4.”
According to Lundgren, Drago has moved down the priority list. And with Creed 3’s outstanding box office, you can see why. The film, which stars Michael B. Jordan as Apollo Creed’s son, made 275 million globally, compared to Creed (173 million) and Creed 2 (214 million). Warner Bros. are sticking with a proven hit rather than taking a gamble.
So, what’s Drago about? Lundgren says, “That storyline they had on the Drago script was interesting, it was kind of a coming to America, kind of immigration angle, with me and the son, and it was pretty cool.”
So while Drago is currently on the ropes, it isn’t down for the count just yet. As one film is delayed, another gets bumped with, with Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire moving its release date forward.
