Ronnie Fieg and Kith Are Bringing Back the Asics Gel-Kayano 12 Sneaker in Two Colorways
More from Footwear News
The Gel-Kayano 14 has been Asics‘ sneaker du jour for the past several years, and Ronnie Fieg is set to revive an earlier iteration from the franchise.
The Kith x Asics Gel-Kayano 12.1 has been revealed by Fieg through select images posted to social media. Two colorways will christen the model’s return, both of which feature metallic silver overlays that have been trendy throughout archival running shoes from the aughts. One is light on color with a mix of cream and beige, while the other stands out with red and blue accents breaking up the cream arrangement. The tongue retains its badge with Japanese characters and Kith’s logo tucked in at the bottom, while the sole unit has been updated from its original form.
Asics launched the Gel-Kayano 12 in in 2006 with a sole unit made up of Solyte foam and Gel cushioning. The sneaker also introduced Asics’ Space Trusstic midfoot shank technology, which provides structure in the midsole and prevents the shoe from twisting inward while running, and an Impact Guidance system enhances the foot’s gait from heel to toe.
The Gel-Kayano 12 has long since retreated into the background from Asics, but it’s return should be boosted by the popularity of running shoes from the era currently dominating the sneaker landscape. Kith’s reintroduction of the silhouette could very be the beginning of a wider revival for the Gel-Kayano 12.
The Kith x Gel-Kayano 12.1 doesn’t yet have any release details, but more information will likely be on the way soon. Footwear News will keep you abreast of any updates.
