Rowan Blanchard’s wise remarks about body image contain advice for women of all ages

In an interview with Coveteur, the outspoken young feminist and actress, Rowan Blanchard, spoke on her experiences with insecurity, which opened up a much-needed conversation about body image. Women of all ages are subjected to toxic opinions regarding their bodies and the exact way they should look, and Blanchard discussed how she personally handles insecurity so she can stay mentally healthy.

When asked about the pressure society places on young women to have a certain body type, Blanchard responded:

“I mean, I feel that pressure to look a certain way [too], so I don’t feel totally exempt from this or like I have this figured out. But I think we feel that pressure to look a certain way because we were told we have to look a certain way, so it’s only natural that we feel like we have to.”

It’s super affirming to know that your favorite celebrity is dealing with the same issues you are. It both humanizes stars and makes young girls aware of the fact that they aren’t alone.

Literally everyone has negative feelings once in a while, and media can play a very damaging role.

Blanchard continues, “I grew up with a lot of magazines that were marketed towards teens that had headlines about how you can lose weight, or how you can look ‘fit,’ or how you can get a ‘bikini body.’ Those types of headlines inherently breed that sort of self-loathing young women already have.”

The major key for conquering these dangerous thoughs is knowing how to break away from negative thinking patterns.

Thankfully, Blanchard also lovingly provided some tips on how she keeps her head above water.

“One thing that generally helps is running or walking around, or doing some sort of timed activity where I can just listen to music and not really think about anything else. That definitely helps your mental health, and so does trying to stay off social media as much as possible. Daily mental health activities that I should be trying to practice more are reading books—things that are physical and not on your phone. Because I feel like a phone, subconsciously, probably really stresses us out.”

Wise words from our feminist princess!
