The Royal Family Shares New Photos of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles to Mark Easter
Pre-pandemic, royal fans could expect to see Queen Elizabeth and other members of her family make a public appearance on Easter Sunday. Much like on Christmas, the royals would often celebrate Easter together, with many of the Queen's relatives traveling to Windsor to attend church at St George's Chapel as a group. And photos of the royals walking to the service would then be published by the press.
But this year, like last year, the royals did not make a public appearance to mark Easter Sunday because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Instead, Buckingham Palace released two new photos of Prince Charles and his mother walking in the gardens at Frogmore House.
The pictures were taken on March 23, by Getty photographer Chris Jackson. "Very special to take this photograph of The Queen and The Prince of Wales in the historic grounds of Frogmore House that has been released tonight. It feels especially poignant as hopefully we will ALL be seeing a bit more of [our] families over the coming days and weeks," Jackson wrote on Twitter, referencing the upcoming loosening of lockdown in the UK.
In addition to the photos, Clarence House commemorated the holiday by sharing a video of Prince Charles reading "God’s Grandeur" by Gerard Manley Hopkins.
Kensington Palace posted a video of a chocolate egg being smashed in slow motion.
And on Thursday, the royal family's main account, which represents the Queen and Prince Philip, Princess Anne, Prince Edward, and a number of other royals, shared a video
of daffodils blooming in the Green Park, along with the message: "Wishing our followers a peaceful Easter Weekend."
