The Royals Celebrate the Birth of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Daughter Lilibet

UPDATE — June 11, 10:35 A.M.: On Friday, Kate Middleton answered reporters' questions about the royal family's new addition: Lilibet "Lili" Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. The Duchess of Cambridge said she wished her newborn niece "all the very best," adding that she "can't wait to meet her." Middleton also noted that unlike the Queen, she has yet to video chat with the tot.

On Sunday, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced the birth of their daughter Lilibet "Lili" Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. After sharing the exciting news, Queen Elizabeth and the rest of the royal family shared their congratulations with the couple.

"The Queen, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, and The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been informed and are delighted with the news of the birth of a daughter for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex," the statement, posted to the royal family Instagram account, read. "Lilibet is Her Majesty's 11th great-grandchild."

The couple announced the exciting arrival of their daughter with a statement on Sunday. "It is with great joy that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet "Lili" Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world," the announcement read, before adding that she was born on Friday (June 4).

"Lili was born on Friday, June 4 at 11:40 a.m. in the trusted care of the doctors and staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA," the announcement continued. "She weighed 7 lbs 11 oz. Both mother and child are healthy and well, and settling in at home."

The newest addition to the family is named after two very important women in Harry's life. Meghan and Harry named their daughter "after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet," while her middle name, Diana, "was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales."
